An international oil major was approaching the decommissioning stage of multiple assets off the coast of Nova Scotia, Canada. Ageing assets, particularly unmanned facilities, require regular intervention by helicopter, resulting in substantial costs.
James Fisher Asset Information Services (AIS) implemented its R2S digital twin solution across all assets in the region to play a strategic role as the planning tool for decommissioning, enabling the operator to understand the integrity of its assets.
The Indonesian LNG refinery of a major international oil company (IOC) required stringent approvals to reach the extremely remote facility, amounting to 20 hours travel time which involved two flights and a boat transfer from the nearest hub city.
James Fisher Asset Information Services (AIS) provided the R2S digital twin solution as a remote alternative to travelling to the plant.
Following a fire onboard a large offshore platform in the North Sea, the oil and gas major implemented a reinstatement plan to repair the damaged asset and equipment.
Many external contractors helping with the repair plan had differing requirements from the asset documentation and information so needed a system for all data to be contained within one accessible and remote platform.
An Americas based National Oil Company (NOC) with a prominent regional footprint was hampered by vast volumes of data held in unconnected software and legacy databases.
The NOC wanted to explore efficient and proven methods to digitalize their assets to reduce cost including less travel to the field, improve collaboration through better sharing of data, and to save time by improving the structure and accessibility of asset data.
James Fisher Asset Information Services (AIS) and SRO Solutions launch a new digital partnership which aims to create one of the most innovative and advanced asset management systems in the maritime and offshore sectors. For the first time it will see four proven technologies offered as one package including AIS’s digital twin platform, R2S.
Two teams of ambitious students successfully completed their MSc projects with support and guidance from digital and data management specialist, James Fisher Asset Information Services (AIS), contributing to their final grades in completing their MSc in Information Technology at the University of Aberdeen.
Aligning with Vattenfall's ongoing digitalisation strategy, digital asset and data management specialist, James Fisher Asset Information Services (JF AIS) has provided its next generation R2S digital twin technology to help the major offshore wind developer understand how visualisation can optimise asset management and project lifecycles.
R2S has completed a critical research project with the Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) Catapult, the UK’s leading technology innovation centre for offshore renewable energy, supporting new technologies with ground-breaking potential.
Lorna Bennet, mechanical engineer with ORE Catapult: “We believe that R2S’ technology could revolutionise offshore wind O&M. By digitalising the Levenmouth Turbine, the digital twin has proven to be a unique solution enabling technicians and interdisciplinary teams to view the turbine’s inner workings and all pieces of equipment anywhere, at any time. This has enabled remote inspection of the turbine, boosting the planning of operations and reducing the need to go offshore. It has also changed the ways individuals are working – generating significant time and financial savings.”
By using R2S and a 3D model, the jury could easily access a navigable representation of Hillsborough Stadium, past and present. It included the original layout of the turnstiles, the exit gates, the stands, the pens, the perimeter and the police control box. All relevant data was contextualised, and complex information was presented simply and intuitively, supporting the investigation team in their decision-making.
We first came across R2S in 2014, and since that time we’ve used various versions of R2S on over 40 platforms in the UKCS. It’s become an operational norm, providing us with competitive advantage and the ability to deliver our projects with an un-comparable level of accuracy.
We have saved millions in journeys to platforms in the past few years alone. We have now captured all of our assets in the North Sea and Gulf of Mexico and are now going beyond to Indonesia, Azerbaijan and Angola.
Through its proactive use of R2S, part of a wider digitalisation initiative, Stena Drilling has reduced the need for transit to and time onboard its global work fleet.
This is demonstrated by a significant reduction in onsite survey requirement, with many surveys, both those carried out by Stena Drilling, and those through third parties, undertaken from the safety and convenience of the onshore environment.
We needed something that would help us save precious bed space onboard our offshore platforms. Non-critical operations staff were an issue. Surveyors, trainees, planners all had to wait their turn but took up valuable space on helicopters and onboard that would be better spent with operations and maintenance staff. So something that would help teams plan more effectively onshore so that they knew exactly what needed to be done, what tools and equipment would be needed and how we were going to do it would make the most sense. We initially looked at 3D laser scanning but that proved too expensive.
R2S came to us from the forensic world and immediately caught our eye as something that would give us the perspective we needed to plan our activities. We could navigate through corridors, measure our way through tight spaces where we would move equipment, observe the condition of pipes and valves that might need replacing and position within the images all of the documentation and permits needed to complete the job.
